The Goidhoo Council successfully organized a volleyball coaching camp from 4th May to 17th May, aimed at nurturing young talent and strengthening the sporting spirit within the community.

The two-week camp was facilitated by Channa Jayasekara, the Sri Lankan National Volleyball Coach, whose expertise and international experience brought a new dimension to the training sessions. Participants, ranging from aspiring youth athletes to local players, had the opportunity to sharpen their skills under professional guidance.

The training program focused on:

Developing technical skills such as serving, passing, spiking, and blocking.

Enhancing team coordination and tactical awareness.

Instilling discipline, fitness, and sportsmanship among players.

According to Goidhoo Council, the camp was part of their ongoing efforts to promote sports and youth engagement on the island. “Sports play an essential role in building healthier, stronger communities. Hosting an internationally recognized coach like Mr. Jayasekara is a milestone for us and a valuable experience for our youth,” a council representative stated.

Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the training boosted their confidence and inspired them to pursue volleyball at a higher competitive level.

The camp concluded with a friendly match showcasing the skills learned during the sessions, attended by council members, families, and local supporters.
